Roy Thai is a nice little gem with a bit of a rough coating in downtown St. Helens. Pro: I have ate here a few times and the food has been persistantly good. I really enjoy their drunken noodle dish and my step father loved his order of the sizzling beef. Con: The service has really been hit or miss. I've went with my grandparents (grandfather loves the coconut shrimp while grandmother is very keen on the yakisoba) and the older gentleman server is awesome. When I went with my mother and step father, we had another waitress that seemed to have a serious chip on her shoulder. Her attitude towards us felt like she was annoyed that we were there and the service was very slow. Overall: While we did have some serious reservations with the waitress and her attitude, the food was good enough to give it another try. Prices are reasonable for the portion size and the older gentleman server is awesome.

Our family eats Thai often, so we've hit quite a few spots in the surrounding area. The food here is great, they provided my restless 2 year old with a coloring book and crayons, but as it got a little busier, the level of service dropped significantly. Please let me reiterate that the food was very tasty, though. I'm sure we will be returning.

The only reason that this restaurant receives even one star is because the server was really kind. I was excited at first because we are so limited in our town that a new Thai restaurant made me a little giddy. I'll be honest I judge all Thai restaurants by their peanut sauce and salad rolls. If you cannot get those two basic things down then I don't have a lot of faith in your establishment. The peanut sauce was scorched. They brought us out brand-new peanut sauce and it was bland. The pad Thai was pretty tasteless. The pineapple cashew rice had exactly 3 pieces of pineapple and about four cashews and the rest rice. We were told the owner who usually does the cooking was not there that day and they hired someone new. Now I realize we live in a small town but that's no excuse for bad food. The server was amazing. We loved her. And we gave her a great tip. Honestly she seemed a little annoyed at the kitchen as well. I always always give an establishment two tries so the next time I come back I'm going to call ahead to make sure the owner is cooking. I've had her food before and it's amazing.

They really go above and beyond here! I come here quite often and it is one of my favorite Thai food places, and my favorite restaurant in St. Helens. The food is great and the service is wonderful! The other day I came here with a group of friends and we happened to come in when they just got very busy. I ordered the pad see ew and it was burned and tasted like charcoal. I wasn't upset because I know that the food is usually always great and that we had just came in during a rush of orders. The cook (I think she is the owner too) came out and apologized to me and explained what happened, she was genuinely sorry and she was so nice! I felt bad because I didn't wanna make her feel bad, I know how good her cooking is since I go there so often! She made me a brand new order and it was for free and it was delicious! They really care about their customers. That was just one of my many lovely experiences from eating there. By the way, their jasmine rice is so good and cooked perfectly every time. My boyfriend always orders extra.

I give them 1 star because the food was okay. The portions were small for the price, but it wasn't tasteless. This is the only reason for any stars. Now as far as service, I give our waitress an F. She looked quite lost when we got there, and there wasn't anyone else there. When we asked about the beer, she wasn't exactly sure of the names, then said there wasn't much to choose from. We got Thai beer, I'm assuming she didn't know the name of it. She only made the glasses half full. Ordering was interesting. I asked for the chicken green curry, then she asked what meat. Lol my husband asked for L51 and she looked at him like she had no clue. Overall, she was lacking skills and personality. Service is huge to me, so unfortunately if this is what happens, not sure I want to go back. Missing the Hawaiian place that use to be there.

We were there for lunch when it was fairly quiet, maybe three tables. The service was slow and the tables and chairs dirty. The restaurant itself needs a thorough cleaning and smells like stale grease. We also saw fruit flies flying around. The Tom Yum soup is quite good, the Yakisoba is pretty good as well with some sweetness. The curries were good as well. However if I was not with a group if people I would not have stayed to eat there with the slow service and dirty restaurant.

My wife and I have been coming to here since it opened. Most of the menu is pretty solid, particularly for Saint Helens (infamous for bad Asian food) and based on the food alone, I would rate it higher. The wait staff is hit and miss - some good, some have been awful. Prices are on the high side for the area. Atmosphere is nonexistent as they've done nothing to change it since this was the Hawaiian Cafe (RIP). But here is why RoyThai only gets 2 stars from me. St Helens is a small town with an amazing history and tight "support/shop local" culture. Walmart damaged that but many of us fight on to preserve that hometown, support your neighbor culture. The owner of RoyThai refuses to support her neighbors (and thus be supported) by carrying and stocking local products. Thats a dealbreaker for me.

Went here for lunch while I was in St Helens & this is a new Thai spot by the Courthouse! Pretty darn good. Nice decor with lots of seating...Food is delish! I had the spicy shrimp fried rice...This place isn't even on Yelp yet! Had to be the 1st to review & put them on the map! If you haven't had it, stop on through...

This place is awesome! Good service and great fresh food! The masamune curry here is some of the best I've had. Too bad I can't spell it properly. Anyway, don't pass this place up and get the crab rangoon also. It's house made and awesome. Actually anything I've tried here is awesome.

I came here with a group of friends to try the place for the first time and let me tell you that we were all extremely satisfied. I am a passionate lover/seeker of different ethnic foods and absolutely love Thai food. Over the years I have had the opportunity to eat at about 30+ different Thai restaurants and one thing I always order (and recommend to everyone) is the Tom Yum soup. I usually get Shrimp in mine and usually everyplace has a different way they prepare the soup. However, being such a fan of this type of soup I have traveled to different markets/resturants and learned how to REALLY make Tom Yum Soup with the authentic ingredients at home. Now for my review, the Tom Yum soup here was SPOT ON AUTHENTIC! So delicious, flavorful, and then heat/flavor was a perfect balance (level 3 of 4). The only thing I would suggest the get on their menu is some Jasmine rice. Other than that I give this place 5 stars and I would recommend Everyone try the Tom Yum! (I like mine poured over a nice bed of rice).

This place is the best ! The first time I came I had Pad Thai is yum perfectly cooked scallops ! Second time , green curry even better . My husband had pumpkin curry our first time so delish , second time had the drunken noodles ! So good ! Better every time we dine ! Had to update my review ,3rd time here food is still awesome , but the waitress was crap !! Was running around like she didn't know what she was doing ! She came to take our order even though we never received a menu ! We had to take silverware off the table next to us . She got all huffy when we told her we had more people coming . She also kept playing with her hair and touching her face and mouth ....gross right ! I'll stick to going there in the afternoon when its just the Thai woman , she's wonderful ! Food is 5 stars , the white lady waitress not so much !!

We went there soon after the place first opened. I think we ordered a curry dish and also a noodle dish with sticky rice. Our litmus test for any Thai restaurant is that they must have sticky rice - believe it or not there are some in Portland that do not! Our food comes out and then the server says that they ran out of sticky rice and that we could have some regular white rice to hold us over if we wanted some other rice that was similar to sticky rice (sorry forgot the type of rice). We said okay, thinking it would be a few minutes to get the other rice. Since we prefer to eat our curry dishes with something other than plain right rice we held off on eating until the other rice arrived. It took longer than expected. We'll chalk this up to them just having opened and not having their routine down, but really, you need to always have enough sticky rice on hand.
